Voices for Prevention (V4P) – Substance Abuse Prevention Day @ the State Capitol 2017
February 16, 2017 - Substance Abuse Prevention Day was held at the Georgia State Capitol on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. Along with GATE youths, students, professionals and certified prevention specialists all across Georgia were in attendance. Mrs. Yvonne Harvey Williams, a nationally renowned motivational speaker, started off the day with a powerful speech to get the attendants inspired and motivated before the rally. It was a successful day where GATE youths were able to speak to several members from the House of Representatives and Senate for support of Senate Bill 81 (SB 81). SB 81 will help monitor Naloxone, an overdose reversal and life-saving opioid antagonist that the Food and Drug Administration designates as a prescription only drug. It was an extremely special day as our very own, Delia Mendez, a youth under Community Action for Teens (CAT), was a speaker at the rally and introduced Jim Langford, founder of the Georgia Prevention Project.
