Good Samaritan PSA
Have you seen the Good Samaritan PSA?
The Good Samaritan PSA was created by #DBHDD and was produced to increase awareness of GA’s Medical Amnesty Law. Drug overdose is a nationwide epidemic that claims over 47,000 American lives every year. In particular, Georgia experiences overdose deaths that have tripled from 1999 to 2013, and has increased into 2014 with more than 1,200 Georgian lives lost to overdose.
The law’s purpose was to increase access to emergency care and treatment for opiate overdose. GA’s Medical Amnesty Law was overwhelmingly passed in 2014 and went into effect immediately. The law provides limited immunity from arrest, charge and prosecution for possession of certain drugs and drug paraphernalia for individuals who experience a drug overdose and are in need of medical care, and for those who seek medical care in good faith for a person experiencing an overdose.
